Sorority and fraternity dating
There are several student-run sub-committees of Greek Council that oversee many aspects of Greek Life: Recruitment, New Member Orientation, Standards of Excellence, Judicial, Service, and Campus-wide Programming.
Unlike many institutions, Trinity's sororities and fraternities do not accept new members until the spring semester.
In addition to the large recruitment events, there are a number of informal events put on by each of the fraternities and sororities so that potential new members have an opportunity to meet the current members in the organizations.
Although participation in fall rush is not a requirement to join a fraternity or sorority, we highly encourage potential new members to find out as much as possible about each organization so that the student can find his or her best fit.
On a campus of almost 50,000, about 10 percent of the student population take part in Greek life. What about the kids that wouldn't be caught dead wearing letters and have no affiliation with the chapters that we, as members of Greek life, are so fond of?
Well, these students are God Damn Independents, and proud of it.
They are much more excited for formals and date parties.
These events are so unique and fun that GDI's truly appreciate when asked out to a Red Wings Date party or when invited to a formal hosted at a club. You either met your SO from class or events that didn't involve slapping the bag or trying to talk over loud music in a sticky basement.
In the Greek community, many judge you on your letters. Your GDI boyfriend or girlfriend really doesn't care about what's churning up in the rumor mill.
Additionally, national fraternities and sororities can provide scholarship opportunities and can connect you with strong alumni networks when you're looking for jobs.
For some students, the friendships they form during their college involvement with a fraternity or sorority will last a lifetime.
It's not every semester that GDI's have the opportunity to be dressed up to the nines, and they take full advantage of it. You two made a connection outside of Greek life, which forced you to step outside your comfort zone.
And if you did actually meet at a bar or house party, well, it most likely didn't include a crowd of thirsty fraternity men or sorority girls that were looking for an Alpha Alpha Alpha to bring home.5.
